About Me
Hi, I have applied to join the Association for 2 reasons, my late father was a sub-lieutenant gunner on the Monte Bello-Suez trip and I wish to see the ship and her history live on in public awareness through my voluntary work at Devonport Naval Base Heritage Centre where I am currently putting together a small display on HMS Royal Oak as the Centenary of her launch is coming up this year as well as the 79th anniversary of her sinking at Scapa Flow' I am 65, retired, married with a son and daughter. I am a naval history enthusiast and avid reader of the same. My working career spanned 47 years, 13 years in Devonport Dockyard, 14 years in the Merchant Navy and 20 years on the railway.Now happily living in Plymouth. |

About Me
Name,Hamilton Young hence the name Brigham. Joined HMS Ganges in February 1963 and flew out the far east to join HMS Diana in January 1964 leaving in 1967. Various spells at HMS Excellent,Floating Dock at Faslane,Naval Base aat Rosyth. After Diana full comissions on HMS Ajax...HMS Ashanti and HMS Amazon. Left the service in April 1979. Now living in Kettering Northants,married with three children and seven grandchildren. After leaving the Royal Navy I spent 6 years at British Steel then 27 years as a local goverment officer before retiring last July. Hobbies are visiting battlefields and war cemetery's,gardening and supporting the local football team. My most enjoyable time in the RN was spent on HMS Diana...when ships were ships and women were women..

About Me
Joined Diana in 1963 in Plymouth. I was a EM1. We then went out to the Far East for almost a year. Guardship to Victorious in the Indian ocean. We went to Singapore and Hong Kong. Was involved when the Mysore sunk the Voyager. Our Captain was Commander Startin. drove the ship flat out most of the time. He was excellent at breaking away from RAS with a full ahead port thrity manoeuvre. Much broken crockery. I was in the ships band called the Fabulous Escorts,with Jinxy Hickling, Ginger our bass player, I'll have to dig out some photos to remember our drummer and lead guitarist. I will up date this profile later. Married to Sandra for 48 years (met at a Collingwood dance) 2 boys and 3 grandaughters. Like to here from anyone who remembers me |

Served Diana 67 to 69 on the last comish out the far flung returning to Guz on 1st April 69 ( I think). Lived in aft stokers mess above B engine room. Mess mates included Roger Bishop, Taff Buzzacott, Brum Hannon, Salty Upcraft, Eddie Cook, Pinky Salmon, Oppy Hopson (Killick of the mess)' Dicky Rock, Pusser Hill. There was also a mad Man. City supporting stoker PO called Jim. The jimmy was Lt.Cdr Teague and the MEO was Jan Darley. There must be more names in my head but following a stroke last year the memory is not too brilliant. Just remembered Scouse Picton. |
